Indoor & Winter Tennis in Vaughan: Domes, Clubs and Court Access

Where to keep playing tennis in Vaughan from October to April, when City courts close: seasonal domes, year-round indoor clubs, and who can book.

How winter tennis works in Vaughan

  • City courts close for the winter. The City's outdoor courts run from spring to late fall and aren't maintained over winter. The City doesn't run indoor tennis courts; its 2025 Tennis and Pickleball Strategy recommends studying a covered tennis and pickleball hub. [source]
  • Domes go up in October and come down in late April. SmartVMC Racquetsports puts its dome up at the beginning of October, and Thornhill Park Tennis Club's 2026–27 indoor season runs October 12 to April 25. [1] [2]
  • Indoor court time is mostly for members and program players. Expect to buy a season membership, join a program, or play as a member's guest. Unlike City courts in summer, there's no walk-up indoor court in Vaughan.

Choosing a winter option

From my years coaching juniors through Ontario winters:

  • Play once a week or less? A program (group lessons or a weekly clinic) usually costs less than a season membership and comes with court time.
  • Want to book courts with friends? You'll need a membership. Prime evening slots fill early, so register as soon as the club opens indoor registration in late summer.
  • Junior players: a winter of indoor group lessons keeps a child's progress going into spring. Bring clean, non-marking court shoes.

Winter is also when many kids move up a racquet size. Take the 30-second quiz to check the length.
