How to choose a program
What I'd look for, as a coach who ran junior groups in Vaughan:
- The right ball and court for their age. A 6-year-old should be rallying with red balls on a small court, not chasing yellow balls on a full one.
- Small groups. Ask how many kids there are per coach. Thornhill Park publishes 1:8 for its recreational March Break camp; fewer is better for beginners.
- Assessments for competitive tracks. High Performance groups at ACE and Thornhill Park place kids by assessment or experience, not age alone. Ask for one before you register.
- Indoor or outdoor. Veneto's and Concord's camps are indoors, so rain doesn't cancel the day; outdoor camps run on club or City courts.
- The right racquet. A racquet that's too long slows kids down at camp. Our 30-second quiz gives the length from their height.
